Monday April 01, 2019

Well, once again it is April. That means it is both Parkinson’s Awareness month and Poetry Month And that means it’s time for my annual stab at writing Parkinson's related poetry. Which raises the question, what is the proper form for a poem about a malady like Parkinson’s?

Changing a Battery Part II

Monday March 25, 2019

I've heard that cars were modeled off of us - that engines run like the human heart, and so on. Our auto mechanics, so to speak, just use more elevators and gallons of hand sanitizer. Our garages are extra fluorescent.

Sherri Hadley, A Triumph of Joy Over Fear

Friday March 15, 2019

Peter Dunlap-Shohl pays tribute to his friend, and to her lasting impact on the communities of Alaska. "Sherri’s triumph over fear was extraordinary. Her ability to snatch joy from the jaws of misery was inspiring. I have seen Parkinson’s destroy families. In Sherri’s case, the opposite occurred. Changing a Battery

Wednesday February 20, 2019

"When something goes wrong with their car, many people would rather it be the battery. As long as it's not on a ferry or a freeway. It's true - batteries are crucial and, if dead, totally disabling. Same for people with Parkinson’s."
