Monthly Meetup Series: Stay “Rock Solid” with Rock Steady Boxing
December 13 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Improve Your Range of Motion, Flexibility, Posture, Agility, Core Strength, & Mental Acuity
Join NWPF and Cappy’s Boxing Gym in this virtual information session to learn more about their ***FREE*** Rock Steady Boxing Classes; a no-contact boxing program designed for people living with PD.
Studies have shown that rigorous exercise, like a boxer’s workout, can positively impact the range of motion, flexibility, posture, and other activities of daily living for people with Parkinson’s disease. Our class consists of a full-body warm-up, boxing basics, footwork practice, abdominal strengthening, and heavy bag and focus mitt combinations. We have coaches and volunteers ready to meet our boxers where they are and grow their skills in a safe and effective boxing environment.
“I’ve had Parkinson’s for twenty years—long enough to see real changes. Everything PD disrupts is trained in RSB: balance, agility, strength, speed, flexibility, endurance—we even work on speaking volume. For me Parkinson’s makes everything harder but nothing’s impossible when I decide to do it, and Rock Steady motivates me to give that extra effort. The drills have translated to better function away from the gym. It’s also great to workout with a similarly challenged, similarly motivated group of PD athletes. Finally the coaches are fantastic! They’re all experienced boxers, and volunteer for this because of some wonderful internal drive that I appreciate tremendously.” –Chris A. Cappy’s RSB Boxer
