Event Series Event Series: Gonzaga Parkinson’s Dance Class

Gonzaga Parkinson’s Dance Class

January 20 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm

Dance for Parkinson’s classes are held every Saturday during the academic year. Gonzaga Dance Students volunteer to assist with classes and Dance Majors and Minors have the opportunity to work with the Parkinson’s community.
Held every Saturday In-Person on Gonzaga campus.

What is it?

Dance for Parkinson’s offers accessible movement classes for people with Parkinson’s and their care partners. Designed through a training from the Brooklyn Parkinson’s Foundation and Mark Morris Dance Groups, this program is a partnership with the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation and Gonzaga University’s Dance Program.

What to Expect?

Arrival:
After signing in, you will be directed to the dance studio, remove your shoes, and pick a chair in the circle.
Chair Exercises:
Beginning with arms and then incorporating our whole body, we will gradually work towards standing exercises.
Across the Floor:
The instructor will teach several movements and phrases focusing on coordination and expression.
Graduate Circle:
To conclude, we’ll acknowledge and thank each person for their presence and contribution to the class.

More Details?

Gonzaga University Dance students participate in the class as volunteers. Students dance alongside participants as examples and sources of support, and also help with setup and take down.

Participation and volunteering questions can be directed toward Suzanne Ostersmith
